Candle of the Month: Fig Wisteria

Candle of the Month: Fig Wisteria Fig Wisteria: lush, earthy-sweet aroma of figs, combined with the alluring Wisteria scent.

Happy Birthday to Scent-Sations, Inc.!

Original Mia BellaWe turn 2 years old this month and we at corporate want to thank all of you who are helping to make this possible!

Carmen and Lynn Milazzo met with Bob Scocozzo and Charlie Umphred four years ago to “strategize” a way to market their “invention” to the world.

Two years ago Scent-Sations Inc was born with the idea to provide a “different” kind of opportunity. An opportunity where average people could take ordinary skills into the market place and earn good money daily if they chose.

At the same time Scent-Sations Inc wanted to provide a home to those whose desire was to create a long term Big Time business with the kind of monthly income that would enable them to escape the rat race.

Two years later, we see BOTH of those desires coming true for thousands of distributors nationwide. Let's get out there and tell the rest of the world about this wonderful opportunity!
Thanks to YOU We turned TWO!

Don't Miss Our Fall Dare to Dream 2-Day Event!

NOTE: Any new distributor who enrolled into Scent-Sations between August 1 thru September 17 can attend the event at the early bird special pricing!
Early Bird Pricing:
Single: $90    Double: $160

Most networking companies go through phases of growth that are easy to track if you are trained to look. Phase 1 is actually the most difficult stage for both management and distributor as there is lack of recognition for the products or the company and usually sponsoring and selling are at their toughest. Phase 1 of Scent-Sations Inc is now officially over.

March 2004 “Dare to Dream” Convention marked the official beginning of PHASE 2, where we will see faster growth, (more distributors being sponsored faster and more people earning income faster).

This month's Fall “Dare to Dream” Event will “kick off” the Fall “Candle Season” and we expect to see massive growth happening in all areas: Fundraising, Retailing and Sponsoring.

If you are unsure about whether you should attend this event I strongly urge you to attend. Why? Because you will be going into the most productive season of your business fresh from an event where you will “be more excited, more trained and have a stronger belief system.”

If you have ever studied “success” you already know that your belief system sets the pace for the growth of your business. I believe that anyone who attends an event of this kind will reap “repayment” for their costs within 30 days!

We at Scent-Sations are doing everything in our power to make sure that we are “ready” for this growth. We have installed new pouring machinery, hired more staff at the factory and the office, installed new 21 st century network marketing software to handle everything imaginable for future growth and this month we are moving into a 35,000 square foot building! We have huge belief in our and YOUR future.

Summer-Time Booths Are A Great Way to Make Money!

Susie Tonniges' BoothI took the Mia Bella candles to my first craft show. The neighboring town of around 250 people were holding their annual town picnic. There were only about 16 vendors set up for a four hour period.

I invited two of my distributors to bring their candles and work the show with me. I was very pleased at our success. In four hours, we sold 14 candles and 23 votives. Everyone who smelled them, loved them!

I also made up a few gift baskets. The candles were the drawing card for this show though. We were the only ones with a lot of activity at our booth and it was definitely noticeable. Several other vendors even came over and purchased from us.

I think my two distributors gained more confidence by seeing how appealing our candles are to people. It's amazing to me that everyone's tastes are so varied. We do have something for everyone. We'll definitely do this again!

"Massachussets Distributor, Sue Stuhr, Gets “THE TOUR!”
Charlie, Sue, And BobbyAs it is summer and I live within driving distance of Wilkes-Barre, PA I decided to visit Scent-Sations company headquarters. I arrived shortly after noon entered the building and found myself in a large warehouse, which smelled wonderful! I knew I was in the right place. A lady directed me to the door to the office in one corner of the warehouse. The first two people I met were Bobby Scocozzo and his daughter Mia Bella. Mia took me on a tour of the warehouse. We smelled the candles and discussed which ones were our favorites.

After my warehouse tour I met Charlie Umphred who took me on a tour of the town of Wilkes-Barre. We drove past the new building that will house both manufacturing and warehouse/shipping come fall. It is at least 10 times the size of the present manufacturing and warehouse facilities combined.

Our next stop was the present manufacturing facility. That day they were pouring Banana Nut Bread candles for the Candle of the Month. I met Carmen who was operating the new pouring machine. This machine is huge. It has a very long conveyor belt that is oval shaped and it barely fits in the current facility. In fact, they had to actually cut through a wall to set it up.

Maybe you’ve heard the expression facts tell, stories sell. Well Charlie is an excellent storyteller. As we were driving around town Charlie told me the history of Wilkes-Barre including showing me where Bobby’s pizza restaurant had been and how he reopened it again very successfully after the flood, which wiped out many of the businesses in the downtown section of Wilkes-Barre at the time. We also drove past Bobby’s former tux shop. This is important to me because it let’s me know that the president of our company has a background of multiple successful traditional businesses in addition to success in network marketing.

I learned that Charlie went to high school with Carmen although they were in different classes and didn’t know each other well at the time. Charlie even drove me past the house he lived in growing up.

Next Charlie, Mia and I went to Tommy’s for pizza. We ordered a pizza with 18 pieces and we each selected the ingredient we wanted on our pieces. Charlie and Mia had cheese. I was adventurous and ordered some with pepperoni and some with veggies. Charlie insisted that I take home the leftovers, which I’m very glad I did.

My tour ended back at the warehouse. I grabbed a box and started selecting some candles to take home with me. I took a few more pictures and said good-bye and thank you. It was a wonderful trip. I can’t wait to see everyone again at the Fall Fling in September.

A "Scent-Sational" Business for the Whole Family!
The Price Family“My two kids, Tim and Taylor, decided they were going try to sell some candles and Bella Bars. They loaded up their wagon with door hangers, brochures and a price list and went on their merry way.

Although most of our neighbors weren't home because of the time of day, one did answer the door and my kids offered that famous “smell and sell” demo that “anyone” can learn. She bought FOUR candles! They smiled all the way home and vowed to do it again!

That evening, I had my first home party. Everyone loved the products and my sales came to close at $500!

My husband works third shift. He really liked Bob Schmitz's line “So, do you burn candles?” So when he tried it on the first lady he came in contact with at work he heard those pleasant words “of course I do!” She purchased THREE Mia Bella Candles and ONE Bella Bar.

One of his co-workers walked over during that “smell and sell” and bought TWO Bella Bars and some votives. A third co-worker purchased his entire votive sample kit also. And by the end of the shift another co-worker purchased my husband's last Green Tea Candle!”

This truly is a FAMILY Business!

Stacey Fox & Jenn Harrison Visit Scent-Sations
Charlie, Stacey, Jenn & Kids
Finally, our long overdue trip to the Scent-Sations Warehouse took place on a very hot Friday in August. Jenn Harrison (my sister) and I boldly decided to travel the 3 1/2 drive with our 3 young children to buy the stock we needed for our newest business venture of having a mall kiosk. We left at 6:30am to get up there as early as possible. At around 10am we pulled up to the warehouse where we were kindly greeted by Tracy. It was so nice to finally put a face to her name! We went inside where Charlie introduced himself and Bob. These guys were such gentlemen. Charlie had such patience for us and our children to help us go through everything and pick out the scents that we needed. He really made us feel like the whole company stopped just because we were there. It's so wonderful to be a part of a company that makes you feel like you are the absolute most important part of their company.

After gathering our stock and helping us load it Charlie led the way to meet Bob for lunch at their favorite restaurant where the pizza was just amazing. Our children loved it, we loved it, and it was just an all around great experience. It was nice to sit with Bob and Charlie and discuss their plans for the company's future. Just hearing their thoughts and ideas makes us so excited for what this company has to offer in the near future. And, I must say that I have never heard of a company where you can take literally your children to work with you, and you get taken out to lunch too!

Thank you Charlie, Bob, and the entire Mia Bella staff for making us feel so welcome, and taking the time to share your goals for the future. My dedication to this company was reinforced with this trip, and it was an excellent introduction for Jenn too.

Life Leaves Clues: Director & Leader, Which One Do You Want to Be?

A good friend and VP of Sales of a multi-million dollar network marketing company is fond of a particular saying “Life Leaves Clues!” The reason he loves to say this is because he feels it says “training” in a nutshell, I.E. if something is working for someone you might want to take notice!

Over the past 2 decades as full time network marketing professionals Bob and I came to understand something about the make-up of a network marketing organization. We NOTICED it among successful organizations.

Contrary to popular belief there are more than 2 levels of people that make up a thriving organization. While there will always be LEADERS and FOLLOWERS the third equation to this is THE most important equation. The organizations that have the most DIRECTORS move the quickest and earn the most money!

We all know what a leader is and we surely all know what a follower is, and I am sure many of us have experienced both of those positions in one form or another in our lives. HOWEVER, the art of DIRECTION is key to the success of your business!

A DIRECTOR is a LEADER who tells the organization what it needs TO DO in order to succeed. If you aspire to be a Director you need to be able to “direct” others in their business.

Example: When a new distributor signs into the program.
1. A FOLLOWER: Will typically ignore it. He or she might find out about the new distributor in his or her downline when he or she gets a readout of the organization.

2. A LEADER: Will typically call the new distributor to “pump him or her up” and tell them how excited he or she is about them getting into the new business and if there is anything we can do just call!

3. A DIRECTOR: Will call up the new distributor and ask questions. Once he or she finds out what the goals of the new distributor are, the Director takes charge of that person and directs him or her in their first 90 days in the business. He will tell the new distributor EXACTLY what he or she needs in order to be successful in the biz and give the new distributor assignments for the week and the month.

Why do I bring this to YOUR attention????
Because it’s vital to the success of your organization that YOU either become or YOU start looking for DIRECTORS in your business!

Example: A new prospect is at your website looking at your business.
1. Do you wait for your readout to find out if she signed up and placed an order or do you

2. Call your prospect, find out what he or she thought of the website, ask if he or she is interested in joining and doing a 3 way with the order line to help the new distributor place an order for product?

Example: A new prospect is signing into the program
1. Do you hope he or she orders some product or

2. Do you ask the new distributor what kind of immediate and long term goals he or she has for the business. Do you suggest that the new distributor place an order for at least one case of candles and some Bella Bars so he or she can start making immediate sales to customers and to possible recruits and do you make sure the new distributor is signed up for a Scent-Team Website????

If you are NOT a director, make sure you find one in your upline or downline and work very closely with that person! He or she can make a huge difference to your success!!!!!!

HINT: DON’T WAIT FOR YOUR MONTHLY REPORT TO FIND OUT WHO IS IN YOUR BUSINESS! FOLLOW UP ON ALL LEADS AND GIVE THEM DIRECTION!

Mia Bella Candles are Exciting Exotic Bird Owners!

Bill & Kellene VanDornCharlie asked us to share our story with all of you because Bill and I feel there is a whole other aspect to these wonderful candles that some may not know but which was recently a topic of great concern on one of our online candle groups.

We were originally contacted and told about these incredible candles from Terry a friend of ours in Texas that had joined the Mia Bella family. She sent me an email saying “Kellene, I know how you love candles and I have one you have GOT to try! “ She went on to tell of all the wonderful qualities of the candles but ended with the part that really got my attention, “ and I think they would be safe to burn around your birds and new grandbaby ”.

Okay, that got my attention because as a long time exotic bird owner I knew the sometimes fatal dangers of burning toxic candles around birds. Bird owners out there you know about this, and consequently if I burned candles at all they had to be carefully burned only in a part of the house well away from where the birds were kept. How amazing that most of us spent years not giving ourselves the same consideration.

I had lost an Umbrella Cockatoo at three years of age that I had raised from a baby to lead poisoning so toxic products around our birds was a critical issue for me. I had to try these candles and when I received our first one I knew those traditional candle burning restrictions were going to be lifted. Not only was this the best smelling and performing candle we had ever burned but as I researched the information on them I realized this truly was a candle that I felt we could safely burn with our birds. These candles are lead and zinc free. Most people know the ramifications of being exposed to lead but bird owners are also aware of the hazards of being exposed to zinc. These two elements alone are a deadly combination for our birds. Even separately these toxins can have devastating effects on our feathered pets. It also stands to reason that if they are toxic to our birds what are we exposing our selves and loved ones to all in the guise of enhancing our living space. Combine this with the documented health hazards of burning petroleum based candles in your homes and you have the very real basis for every bird owners concern and fears.

Then along came Carmen and Lynn's candles into our life. I don't think either of them realized the impact their candles were going to have on a whole separate population of the country that had been doing without. Bird Owners.

Bill and I have been burning these incredible candles in our home WITH our birds not separate from them for a year now without fear or reservation. My favorite remains Orange Creamsicle, and that fragrance is most often burned in our bedroom within two feet of our two cockatiels, Nicki and Herbie's cage.

This is something I would have never done before being introduced to Mia Bella candles. Our two Umbrella Cockatoos, Parsley, and Scooter are housed both in the living room and Bill's office/sunroom and we have candles burning in both these rooms at all times when we are home. Additionally all of our bird friends are now burning these candles in their homes with their beloved feathered family members.

Everyone was so unanimous in their excitement about having a candle of this unsurpassed quality that they feel they can now safely burn and enjoy in their homes alongside their birds that Bill and I decided to take it a step further and share them with the bird owner community as a whole.

We are proud and steadfast in our belief of the candle that Carmine and Lynn have created and so we took them to the arena of Bird Fairs and Expos. We felt that once bird owners got over the fear and stigma of traditional candles in their homes and opened their homes to our candles that we would be tapping into a huge market of long starved candle lovers. I am pleased to share with you all that we were right. The response has been overwhelming in love and appreciation of our candles. Bill and I simply provide the opportunity for smell and sell and share our own experience and belief as bird owners and those of others that have now made these candles are part of their daily lives.

Doris and Tim Kuhns are two examples of the never-ending fringe benefits that this company and product inspire and success that we have personally had with this venue. We attended a bird fair in an area we had not before been to and as we set up our table a vendor from across the way came over and introduced herself as Doris Kuhns. She said that she loved candles but knew the dangers of mixing them with birds so she and her husband had been developing a “safe” candle in their home for about a year trying to come up with something that had strong fragrance that lasted, and would burn cleaner as well as being safe for bird owners.

Yes, they are a very sharp couple and had already realized the huge untapped market of bird owners in the candle industry. Well, to summarize, Doris spent nearly as much time at our table having fallen in love at first sniff as she did her own that day. Tim quickly realized he didn't have far to look, simply over to our table and there she was asking questions and soaking up all the information like a sponge, and as she later said; her brain going kaching, kaching with the business opportunities. They went home and decided "why should we continue to labor developing a safe candle when we have everything in this candle we have been striving to create and more just waiting for us to tap into this incredible business opportunity and product!" And so she has…

Birdies! In two months time she has become a very successful distributor and her and Tim have taken over covering the Kansas City area bird shows and expos. Tim has been so impressed with their success and the positive reception these candles have received within the bird community and elsewhere that he has set a goal of a very special trip for Doris of which she is nearly halfway to completing already!

I know for legal purposes Scent-Sations as a company is not in a position to make a definitive claim of safety for birds in the burning of their candles. But speaking from a personal perspective Bill and I and a growing population of Mia Bella Candle burning bird owners will unreservedly say how thankful we are to Carmen and Lynn for putting candles back into our lives in a huge way, and to Bobby and Charlie for having the foresight, experience, and knowledge to see the far reaching business opportunities of one of the most unique and incredible products on the market and having the insight to create an equally unique business in which to market them and share the wealth of both product, and financial potential with all of us.

-Bill and Kellene VanDorn

"Mommy" challenges don't stop this distributor!

"A gentleman called me after looking at my website. As we were discussing the Scent-Sations Business Opportunity my three year old starting going on "tear!" I was thinking this poor guy must think he found the "sponsor from hell!"

While I was chatting to him about the business my little one emptied out the kitchen cabinets, turned on the electric can opener, opened three cans,, then jammed his finger into one of the cans and it was stuck so he was screaming top of his lungs. I picked him up, unstuck his finger, (no blood, THANK GOD!) and I just continued discussing business as though nothing was going on!!!

In a couple years I am going to write the book on what its like to work from home with Dennis the Menace by your side!"

“Lighting the Way”…A Very Special Fundraising Event

Tanya, Brian & FamilyIt's one of those moments in life I'll never forget. My children and I were train conductors whizzing the small wooden engines around the track in their playroom when the phone rang. It was my brother, Brian. I could tell from his soft serious tone that the news he was about to share was not good. He began to explain the unthinkable. My sister in law, his wife Tanya, had just been diagnosed with acute Myelodysplastic Syndrome a pre-leukemia condition and would need immediate treatment.

Brian and Tanya's life instantly began a fast paced schedule of additional medical tests, becoming educated on her disease and prognosis, and initiating a search for a bone marrow donor. The biggest emotional challenge, however, was preparing their two small children, ages 2 years and 6 weeks old, for their Mommy to be away at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor for the next three months. Tanya would undergo extensive chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and follow up treatments.

In the midst of all the confusion and uncertainty for the future, it became clear that, despite Tanya's excellent health insurance, not everything would be covered. My brother began to worry about the incredible financial burden they would incur at this time as well.

I have always been delighted with my Scent Sations business and how it gives each of us the power to not only change our lives, but touch the lives of others through the wonderful opportunities we offer. I've been fascinated with our fundraising program. It's what initially brought me to look at the business. Now, here I sat, blessed with a vehicle that could bring financial relief to my brother and his family.

I began brainstorming and planning. Even though I had some experience with our fundraising program, I was uncertain how I would pull off a fundraiser for an individual. I called and talked with Lynn at the home office and posted a message to my team for ideas. The brainstorming energy was incredible and so very much appreciated. Scent Sations truly is a company that has instilled a support system of family strength and community.

With my action steps in place, my first priority was to design and capture a personal focus for Tanya and her story of courage. I did this by simply by giving the fundraiser a name. “Lighting The Way” a Fundraising Event for Tanya became a mission in hope, encouragement and celebration of life.

I have a great passion for the Internet as it has been a powerful tool to help me build a team of dynamic people. So once again, I turned to cyber space to put together a fundraising team of Tanya's family and friends. I posted a message on Tanya's “Care Pages” website through U of M. It's an amazing site that allows patients to stay in touch with the outside world through interactive message posting, photos and updates. Very quickly a volunteer fundraising team was established and our work began.

“Lighting the Way” quickly took on a life of its own. The enthusiasm and support has been incredible and beyond my wildest dreams. Volunteers expanded into three other states, Tanya's hair salon and chiropractic office, as well as a few area businesses. The story was picked up by a small community newspaper in Tanya's home town, and I began receiving emails of support from people that didn't even know Tanya, but wanted to help in some way.

I've been delightfully overwhelmed as my living room has become a mini Mia Bella warehouse. The floor, at times, has been literally carpeted with a few hundred Mia Bella jar candles, packing peanuts and boxes. You bet I've made a few SOS calls to my mom for help as I watched my own two small children laugh and toss packing peanuts into the air like confetti!

We've been blessed so far to be able to raise funds for off campus medical housing for Tanya and her family. And, we're not through! With school beginning, last week I set up fundraising candle displays and order sheets in two elementary schools where Tanya is a teacher.

My business has been enriched as well. I've a deeper love for this company and the potential of our fundraising program. I have a personal testimonial to share with others in the community who are in need of additional financial support for their organization. “Lighting the Way…” has become my business signature line in my Fundraising Packets. And, I've met so many generous people who give reinforcement to the power of the human spirit.

Tanya pulled through her chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant. Her twin brother was the perfect donor match! She is in the middle of her “100 day” healing and post treatment activities. She will be given a bone marrow biopsy the first week of October to establish the success of the transplant. And then, with fingers crossed, she'll be coming home. Her attitude remains positive for the future.

Thanks to everyone for your support, ideas and prayers. I'm honored that we are “Lighting the Way” to a new beginning for a very special person!

Distributors of the Month: John & Judy Handrahan

John & JudyI have never pictured myself in the candle business.  We have been in network marketing for about 15 years, and the last thing we were looking for was another company with a product.

We started the business for the sole purpose of doing good friends a favor. We signed up for the candle of the month to help them out, never even considering doing the business.  After a month of being in the candle of the month, I knew the quality of the candles and that we needed to be doing this business.

Our awesome sponsors told us they were going to Nebraska to help one of their new distributors get to diamond and than on to Kansas City to help us.  Being the competitive person that I am, I was determined I would be diamond before they got here.  In the next three days, I signed my first 6 distributors, accomplishing my first goal of being diamond before John and Lise got to Kansas City.  John and Lise were our mentors in another MLM company that we were in, which is the only reason we even considered doing the “candle business.”

Since the day we decided to do this business, we were determined to make it work for us. One thing that made the big difference was the support we received from our sponsors, Lise and John. After I signed up my first 14 distributors, I went to Texas for a couple of weeks to help my children move there.  By the time I was finally able to get back on the Internet, imagine my surprise when I found out that even though I was on vacation, our successline was growing.  We were able to sign 20 distributors in our first 6 weeks of actually doing the business, even with 2 weeks vacation.  Mainly because I listened to John and Lise and just took the candles everywhere I went and started showing the candles and letting people smell them. My job now is to do whatever I can to help my business partners build their business.  That is what I love about MLM, we are helping people change their lives, one distributor at a time.

This is what I explain to people I talk to, how they can become successful and their whole community will benefit.  When they start to make money, they give more to their Church and they spend more in their community.  That is what this is all about, helping people change their lives and teaching them to give back to their community.

Thanks to John and Lise helping with Internet prospecting , we already have distributors in our successline in 10 different states.  I am developing a relationship with all of them, and they are all just awesome, energetic people that are so excited about this company.  I signed a gentleman named Carl in North Carolina and the same day he signed a distributor in Colorado and the next day she signed a distributor in Virginia, and it has been multiplying all over the place from there.  Thanks Carl, you are awesome. Our new business partners are all working so hard, they are making us look good .

John and Lise and years of being in MLM taught us that we need to work this business several different ways, the first 10 distributors we signed up were people we knew, the next 10 were either from newspaper ads or leads from the internet. We have several more coming in during the month of August either from the leads or from the ads.

We are meeting so many great people while working with Scent-Sations. People we would have never met otherwise. We already have one personally sponsored distributor that has become a Diamond distributor, Janie and Larry Griese, and several who are well on their way to that goal . We'd like them all to get to the Diamond level and well beyond!

Everyone is looking for an opportunity for a better way of life. Mia Bella is a ground floor opportunity that is affordable for everyone. An awesome product coupled with a great business opportunity and great owners who are always accessible…what more could you ask for? I really feel like this is the company I have waited for, and been in training for, for the last 15 years. I have never been so excited about anything I have ever done.

I would like to thank God for bringing John and Lise into my life and thank John and Lise, for bringing this opportunity to us and thanks to my awesome husband John of 32 years for the five daughters he has given me and for supporting me in this business. He has always been there for me and for our friends and our daughters. He has always supported any new venture I have taken on. Thanks to my wonderful daughters who also have always supported anything their crazy mom has done, and I must admit some of my ventures make for a lot of laughs at family gatherings, isn't that what we try to do in life, make people laugh.

-John and Judy Handrahan, MO
